Stacy Lewis ready to take on rivals at Manulife LPGA Classic
American Stacy Lewis, who finished tied for the second spot in the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, is preparing to participate in the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, scheduled to be held from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Manulife Financial LPGA Classic is going to feature a 144-player field that includes most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
However, several players have yet to confirm their commitment for the prestigious tournament.
In addition to Lewis, the $1.3 million tournament will also feature American Paula Creamer, Lorie Kane from Canada , Michelle Wie from the United States, Natalie Gulbis, Alena Sharp, Ai Miyazato, Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen of Norway and Spanish Azahara
Munoz
Analysts said that Lewis is likely to give a tough time to her rivals, as she has been performing well in the current season. The American star has racked up two LPGA victories so far — a feat that has put her in a much better position than most of the other
players.
Analysts also pointed out that if Lewis keeps her cool on the course at Waterloo, she can beat big names.
The 27-year-old kicked off the 2012 season in an impressive style, as she won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, in April. She then participated in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in early June and won the coveted title.
Winning two victories in the season has helped her increase her world ranking. She currently ranks 3rd in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Golf commentators said that although the field for the Manulife LPGA Classic is yet to be completed, Lewis appears to have mapped out her strategy for the looming battle.
In the last event, Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, the American prodigy displayed a superb performance, as she came close to winning her second major title.
Speaking to the media during the LPGA Championship, Lewis said that she likes to put her confidence in her capabilities, which keeps the momentum going.
“You know, it's confidence, and I think it's walking up to the first tee and knowing that you can win a golf tournament. Before I kind of wondered, after I won the Kraft, I wondered if I would win again,” the golfing sensation shared.
