Stacy Lewis rises to second position in world rankings
American Stacy Lewis has surged to the second position in women’s world golf rankings after maintaining her third spot for a few days.
Lewis has been playing exceptionally well in the current season, as she has recorded two LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) victories so far. The two victories and good finishes in the 2012 season
helped the American star improve her position in world rankings.
Pumped up by her first major triumph she recorded at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in the 2011 season, the 27-year-old star kicked off the current season in an impressive style. She participated in all the
LPGA tournaments for the season and finished strong in most of them.
Her first victory for the season came in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic 2012, as she beat Lexi Thompson of the United States by one stroke.
Analysts said that a major win in April 2011 proved lucky for the rising star, and she has been moving forward since. They said that there is still plenty of room for improvement, but Lewis has been putting
her best foot forward, which is evident from her rising position in world rankings.
Another factor that helped the LPGA star boost her ranking is a victory in the ShopRite LPGA Classic 2012. In the tournament, Lewis grabbed a 4-stroke triumph against Katherine Hull of Australia.
The American prodigy did not stop advancing, as she once again proved her worth at the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012. She displayed a superb performance in the four rounds, as she finished tied for the second
position on the leaderboard.
Commentators said that the current world number one Yani Tseng, who has stood firm at her position for months now, will face a serious threat from Lewis. They said that the American prodigy is keeping alive
the gradually fading hope of non-Asian players, who were knocked off the top spot by Taiwanese Tseng.
Tseng has been the strongest player on the LPGA Tour so far, with 3 victories in the current season.
Another big development in the current rankings was recorded when Shanshan Feng of China improved her ranking to number four recently. Feng rose to fame when she won her first major title at the LPGA Championship.
