Stacy Lewis says 2011 Kraft Nabisco was game changer
American Stacy Lewis, who has overshadowed every Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) after becoming the Rolex Player of the Year 2012, said that she gained confidence after winning
the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Lewis has put together a stellar profile at the end of the 2012 season, but it took her more than a year to put her game into order and win the most prestigious accolade for the season—Rolex
Player of the Year 2012.
Speaking during one of her recent interviews, the American star said that she had been trying to do her best on the course for months last season, but her game simply could not produce much
success.
Lewis racked up her first LPGA title at the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship in September 2007 and she had been winless for more than three years. Then in early 2011, her performance saw a sudden
rise and she eventually ended her protracted winning drought at the prestigious Mission Hills Country Club, California, United States.
It was the scene of a relentless battle at the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship as the resurgent golfer had to face current world number one Yani Tseng who had already won the 2010 edition
of the four-day major event.
Lewis unveiled her best putting skills and outdueled Tseng by three strokes—a considerably huge victory, given the latter’s fiery form that had seen her win the Honda LPGA Thailand 2011.
“The Kraft and then this year told me I had a chance if I put in the work," said Lewis who won four titles in the 2012 season, bringing the total number of her top-ten finishes to 16.
The LPGA titan further said that her rival looked way more confident than her, but she just kept playing a natural game throughout the four days.
“To see her kind of start to struggle a little bit, it kind of humanized her and made it, 'Oh, I can beat her.' That motivates me,” Lewis said of the resistance she faced from Tseng.
After the win, Lewis had already started building up her profile on the back of impressive finishes, her performance was somehow even more perfect than her record suggested.
