Stacy Lewis says her aim is to grab the top spot in women's world golf rankings
American Stacy Lewis, who won the ShopRite LPGA Classic last Sunday, said that she seeks to grab the top spot in women’s golf, and is working hard to achieve her goals.
Lewis posted an overall 201 to grab her second victory of the current season. She displayed stellar performances in the first two rounds of the tournament.
The American star registered a 65 in the first and second round each, tightening the noose on her rivals.
Speaking to the media at the end of the prestigious tournament, Lewis said she is glad to grab the second victory of the current season, and will try to keep the momentum going in the upcoming events.
“Well, I was relieved to be done. It was so hard out there. Having a huge lead like that was really tough to keep your concentration, and I kind of lost it in the middle of the round,” the happy winner shared.
“But I saw the leaderboard on 13 and saw I still had a six-shot lead, and from then on it was make par and get out of here. So I'm so happy that I won, and I find out that I think I'm projected to be third
in the world now and the top American. It's just -- I don't even know what to say. I mean it's unbelievable”.
The American prodigy had been going through a rough a few months back, as she suffered a back injury. The debilitating injury laid her up for months, and she had to undergo surgery to enable her play professional
golf again.
Sharing her thoughts about how she is feeling after riding out tough times during her treatment, Lewis said that she is more than thrilled that she not only recovered fast, but also won a very important LPGA
(Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament.
She went on to say that she has set some goals for the current season, and has been quite lucky in terms of victories. However, the 27-year-old golfer was keen to point out that her biggest aim is to get to
the top of the women’s world golf rankings.
