Stacy Lewis seeks to win at US Women's Open 2012
American Stacy Lewis, who is firm to battle rivals at the US Women’s Open 2012, has said that she will try to keep her cool at the major tournament — something very important for her to keep moving up in the world rankings.
The US Women’s Open is scheduled to be played from July 5-8, at Kohler, with a strong roster featuring top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) players.
No matter how fearsome the US Open roster may be, Lewis appears to have adopted a new strategy. Speaking to the media about how she plans to fight against competitors this week, the American prodigy said that she will try not to lose patience this time.
Lewis played a solid game in the last edition of the US Women’s Open, and looked in a great shape, but she could not hold her nerve on some holes. Making lousy shots took a toll on overall position on the leaderboard.
Lewis might not have done her best in the last event of the US Open, but her stunning performance in the current season has certainly put her in the limelight.
Having recorded good finishes in the recent tournaments, the 27-year-old golfer has improved her ranking.
She currently ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and looks firm to further boost her position.
Some commentators have said that the toughest fright will be between the current world number one Yani Tseng and Lewis.
Tseng, who has been indomitable in terms of ranking because she has stood strong at the top spot for the last several weeks, has been struggling to show her usual performance. The top-ranked prodigy recorded unimpressive finishes in some of the events she played recently.
However, Lewis appears to be in a far stronger position than her archrival. With plenty of support she is expected to gain from her fans, the golfing sensation has expressed her confidence in her game.
“I think I look back to last year's U.S. Open. I was doing really well through about a round-and-a-half, and then kind of the middle of the tournament I really -- my attitude got in the way. I was kind of trying to force some things,” the LPGA titan said.
“I would get upset over some bad shots and kind of really get down on myself. So that's something I've been working on this year, is to stay a little bit more level, and especially at a U.S. Open you have to stay patient”.
