Stacy Lewis set to take on rivals at Prattville
American Stacy Lewis, who is in high spirits after finishing inside the top 10 at Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, is going to take on rivals at the upcoming Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
The Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 is scheduled to be played from September 20-23 at Prattville, Alabama, and will see Lewis trying to further cement her second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings in
a roster loaded with big stars.
According to the published field, key Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) contenders confirmed to tee off on September 20 include current world number one Yani Tseng, Natalie Gulbis, Angela Oh, Sandra
Gal, Lexi Thompson, Katie Futcher, Suzann Pettersen, Jane Park, Brittany Lincicome, Pernilla Lindberg, Katherine Hull, Maria Hjorth, Vicky Hurst, Azahara Munoz, So Yeon Ryu, Katy Harris, Alena Sharp and Jin Young Pak.
Observers said that the field is strong but Lewis is likely to give a tough time to her archrivals. They further said that there are some contenders who can pose challenge to the American star, but her recent
performance has enabled her to rise to the second position in the world rankings, and she now comes across as the most formidable LPGA star.
Having grabbed two titles in the current season — first at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in April and the second at ShopRite LPGA Classic in the month of June — Lewis will be relishing the chance to play a
course she certainly will feel at home on.
Lewis-Tseng rivalry will be in full swing, keeping the spectators immersed in the play throughout the four days. But Lexi Thompson will also be grabbing enough attention as she is going to defend her title.
Thompson may have made mistakes in some of the recent tournaments, but she has vowed to defend the title at Prattville this year.
“I'm feeling pretty good about it. I've played pretty consistent. Before those last two events I struggled a little bit, but it's golf. You've got to stay strong, you've just got to work through it. I
feel pretty good about my game, just working to improve on little things,” Thompson said during her pre-tournament interview on Tuesday.
