Stacy Lewis shoots overall 281 to finish tied for sixth at Vancouver
American Stacy Lewis carded an overall 281 at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, finishing tied for the sixth position along with Anna Nordqvist of Sweden.
Lewis, who has been performing well in the current season and recently grabbed the second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, fought hard to prove her mettle at the CN Canadian Women’s Open held at
the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
The American star got off to a slower start than most of her archrivals as she registered a 72 in the opening round. However, she ramped up pressure on other contenders in the third round by shooting a 66 trying
her best to stop them from piling up a big lead against her.
Lewis ranks among the most talented golfers on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and boasts a profile that speaks of her accomplishments in professional tournaments. However, the battle at
Vancouver rattled her in a sense that she could not have done any better, while at the same time amateurs like Lydia Ko dominated the leaderboard throughout the four rounds.
Ko, who belongs to New Zealand, came across as a contender well versed in playing a tough field, despite being the youngest player in the roster. The triumph has made her the “youngest LPGA winner”.
Lewis’s performance, which usually sets her apart from most of the players on the LPGA Tour, looked a little shaky when she came face-to-face against her battle-hardened Asian rivals.
South Korean players once again grabbed much of the spotlight as they managed to seize most of the positions in the top 10.
The 27-year-old American posted a 72 in the fourth round, which hampered her from improving her position on the leaderboard.
“I got off to a bad start and was struggling early and just never really got anything going,” Lewis regretted while speaking to the media at the end of the tournament. “It was fun, though, watching Lydia play,
and I kind of got caught up in her game I think there at the end watching her play, and she went around the whole day, she played great. Every single shot was right at the pin”.
