Stacy Lewis stands tied at the second place
In a surprise ending of the Evian Masters 2012, the top rated player Stacy Lewis came out tied for the second position with Karrie Webb with a final score of 273 points.
Experts are hard pressed to declare the surprise in this ending. They cannot decide whether Lewis played bad or Webb played good. In the final analysis, it appears that Webb overcame her mediocre performance in the first two rounds and started playing great
golf in the final two rounds.
Similarly, it appears that Lewis, who was going strong since the start of the tournament and was named as the hot favourite for winning the event, let her guard down and allowed the game to slip from her hand.
Experts say that the third round was the decisive round that sealed the fate of all the players. South Korea’s Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, Karrie Webb and China’s Shanshan Feng all came up in the third round.
This round was decisive as Lewis lost the advantage she had gained in the first two rounds. Webb and Feng played a really great game and improved their rankings.
The third round ended with Lewis at 205, Park at 205, Webb at 206 and Feng at 208. The scores clearly show that Lewis had lost her lead and Park was on the move up with her new found confidence.
Webb had a fair chance at the first position while Feng was clearly destined for the third place. What happened during the final round?
These four players played their best but apparently Park came out as the victor with her final score of 271. Many commentators say that it was the 14th hole that proved to be the deciding factor for Lewis. She shot a bogey on the hole, effectively ending
her chances of a win.
Park played a sensible game and remained calm. This is very essential in the final rounds of any golf tournament, as immense pressure causes players to lose focus and make mistakes.
Both Feng and Lewis scored an eagle on the final hole. However, this was not enough to counter the string of birdies that Park shot in the final round.
