Stacy Lewis ties for ninth position at Kingsmill Championship
American Stacy Lewis, who was confident to shine at the Kingsmill Championship, fired a 71 in the fourth round to finish tied for the ninth position along with three other contenders.
Lewis was one of the contenders singled out as the strongest of all, but she could not maintain her grip on her game in the last round.
Getting off to a sensible start that saw her post a 69 in the first round, the American star was more than happy after she cemented her position on the leaderboard. She protected her position in the second round as well, as she registered a solid 65, stepping up pressure on rivals.
Lewis expressed her confidence in her game while speaking to the media at the end of the second round, saying she is pretty thrilled after making a strong comeback on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Although the star golfer is playing above-average in the current season, she is in an intense battle against current world number one Yani Tseng as both have sworn to protect their reputation.
With Lewis vowing to topple Tseng from her number one spot, the spectators at Williamsburg watched her play with keen interest.
When asked what kept her get going in the first two rounds, the American golfer said that since the course — Kingsmill — has been one of favourite spots in golf — she was determined not to disappoint her fans and golf-crazy American spectators.
“It's great to be back. I mean, as long as the event has been here, I think I remember being in college and watching people play this event. I mean, it was one of the staples. It's one that when I came out on Tour everybody talked about, how much they loved it here,” Lewis said.
She said that she was a bit troubled about her game when she started playing the course a few months ago, but thanks to her good work ethic, she overcame her worries.
“You know, I didn't have a good experience my first time, but I didn't really remember much of the course coming back, so I kind of felt like I was coming here again for the first time, which sometimes that's not necessarily a bad thing”.
