Stade Brestois sign Jonathan Zebina while David Trezeguet turns down OGC Nice – Ligue 1 news
Throughout his long career, former France international Jonathan Zebina had never made a desire to return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 as an absolute priority. However, the 33-year-old seems to have changed his mind.
After a terrible 2010/2011 campaign with Italian Serie A side Brescia, the former Juventus man has joined Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois.
The central defender has signed for Brestois on a one-year deal with the Brittany club and has an option of extending his contract to one more year if his performances impress the Stade Brestois management.
The club’s official website announced in a statement, “French defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Zebina-c19071 has agreed to join Stade Brestois 29 on a one-year deal plus an option of an extra year. Zebina will be present at Brest in the beginning of the next week where he will
undergo a medical examination before he pens a deal with the club.”
The much-travelled defender would bring a lot of experience to a young Brest side that narrowly avoided relegation by finishing 16th in the 2010/2011 Ligue 1 standings.
Meanwhile, former France international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Trezeguet-c10623 has refused to sign a contract with French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. The veteran striker was linked with a move to a French club following his departure from the now-relegated Spanish side Hercules Alicante.
The 33-year-old former Juventus man had been at previous club AS Monaco along with former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ludovic-Giuly-c22617 where the Frenchman has been training with the Monaco side in order to keep himself in good condition.
It was widely rumoured that Trezeguet would eventually land a contract at a French club in coming days. However, it now seems that things have changed drastically in the last few days. The France 98 World Cup winner had a meeting with the president of OGC
Nice, Jean-Pierre River.
The Nice supremo ended all speculation about Trezeguet by making a statement on the club’s official website.
“We spoke for the first time on the phone to schedule an appointment. We had already explained to him of our desire to meet him and discuss a possibility to sign for OGC Nice. We wanted him to be part of our project but sadly, the player is not willing to
play for us. However, everything was done in a very cordial and respectful manner,” read the statement on ogcnice.com.
Reports suggest that the striker is currently attracting a lot of interest from Italian and Spanish side and Trezeguet is more keen on joining either the La Liga or the Italian Serie A as most of the club there might be able to afford his wages, something
not many clubs in France can’t do.
