Stade Francais Prop Rodrigo Roncero might miss Amlin Challenge Cup Final – Rugby news
Stade Francais’ preparations for the final of the Amlin Challenge Cup suffered a major blow as Rodrigo Roncero faces a possible suspension. Stade Francais are scheduled to take on the Harlequins at the Cardiff City Stadium on May 20.
The 34-year-old Argentinean prop charged with an illegal tackle on Clermont Auvergne’s scrum half Morgan Parra, during their semi-final match in Paris on Friday, April 29. The on-field referee did not show Rodrigo Roncero a yellow card for the tackle.
Rodrigo Roncero played an important role at scrum for his side’s 29 – 25 defeat of Clermont.
Rodrigo Roncero charged for a late body check on Clermont Auvergne scrum-half Morgan Parra. The incident took place in the ending minutes of the first-half as Roncero made a late tackle with his shoulder on Parra.
The European Rugby Cup (ERC) disciplinary commission took notice of the incident after the game. The ERC citing commissioner from England, Alan Mansell, cited the incident.
Mansell made the complaint against Roncero in contravention of rugby law 10.4 (f). The clause deals with dangerous charging or obstructing of an opponent without the ball including shouldering.
International Rugby Board (IRB) recommended sanctions for offences under Law 10.4 (f) carries the following three different kinds of penalties: 1) Low End: 3 weeks, 2) Mid Range: 5 weeks; and Top End: 9 to 52 weeks.
ERC disciplinary commission has called Rodrigo Roncero to appear before the commission on Friday.
Rodrigo Roncero is considered the world’s most destructive scrummager. Roncero’s international career spreads over 13 years as he made his debut for the Argentina back in 1998 against the Japan and has remained in and out of the international outfit.
He has represented the Argentina in their previous two world cups. Rugby’s renowned columnist, Stephen Jones, ranked the Argentinean as the ninth best player in Rugby World magazine’s January 2010 edition.
So far, he has made 43 appearances for Pumas in which he has scored 20 points. Rodrigo Roncero joined Stade Francais in 2004 as he switched over from Gloucester Rugby.
Stade Francais currently are in 10 place in the French Top 14 with 10 wins and 14 loses in the season and will be without the services of their first choice prop RoRo for their last match of the French Top 14 against the Racing Metro during the weekend.
