Stade Rennais Vs AS Saint-Etienne – Player ratings (Stade Rennais)
Stade de la Route de Lorient saw highflying Stade Rennais take on AS Saint-Etienne in Week 8 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 encounter. Stade Rennais hosted AS Saint-Etienne on the back of a 6-2 win over Sochaux in Week seven of the Ligue 1 action.
The hosts started the game brightly and within just four minutes of the game, took the initiative when an ever-opportunistic Youssef Hadji slotted in from close range after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-c18993 Pitroipa’s stinging shot from long distance was not properly dealt with
by goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier.
Saint-Etienne had failed to win a single game in the last six Ligue 1 outings and much to the credit of Christophe Galtier’s men, Les Verts did not stay on the back foot for long. 12 minutes into the second half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pierre-c29989 Aubameyang’s bullet
header gave the visitors a much needed point away from home.
Yann M’Vila was an ever present for the Bretons in their 6-2 demolition of Sochaux but the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international seemed to be out of sorts for most part of the game. Bettor.com now takes a look at the players who featured for Frederic Antonetti’s men in the
recent Ligue 1 encounter.
Benoit Costil (5.5)
The French goalkeeper was not able to do much for his side throughout the game as he was largely untested by the Saint-Etienne attack. The former Sedan custodian was not at fault for conceding a goal from a powerful Aubameyang header.
Theophile-Catherine (4)
The 21-year-old left-back was totally invisible and non-existent for Rennais throughout the game. The young defender failed to support the offense and gave too much space to Aubameyang and Gradel who came on late in the game.
Mavinga (4)
The 20-year-old defender was all over the place throughout the game and was lucky not to be punished two or three times. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Max-c24993 Gradel from Saint-Etienne made his
task even more difficult as he was not able to match the pace of the forward.
Kana-Biyik (4.5)
The young defender was forced to provide extra cover for Mavinga throughout the game and it was his poor judgement that gave Aubameyang a clear sight at goal. The youngster still needs to learn marking and Frederic Antonetti might be concerned about this
as well.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Boye-c18840 (not rated)
The Ghanaian lasted only 16 minutes after suffering a thigh injury and was replaced with Romain Danze (4) who had a rather bland outing. Never asserting his authority, the 25-year-old was left to repel the attacking threat of Les Verts.
M’Vila (4.5)
Much to the disappointment of Antonetti, key player Yann M’Vila failed to turn in a performance that has made him one of the best players in France. The youngster was nascent in the attack and wandered too much out of his position. It seems that the pressure
of playing for Rennais in Europe and the extra pressure of sealing a place in UEFA 2012 is taking a toll on the defensive midfielder.
Pajot (4.5)
The young midfielder was too quiet for Antonetti’s liking and was unable to do much in the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Pitroipa-c19052 (6.5)
Since his arrival from Hamburg this summer, the Burkinabe player has become an integral part of the Rennais side and was the best player on the pitch for both teams in the 1-1 draw. It was his shot that saw Hadji score a goal. He was a constant threat on
the left flank and tested Ruffier three times in the game.
Julien Feret (5.5)
The Frenchman was one of the most dangerous players in the field along with Pitroipa and could have benefited more from a largely ineffective midfield.
Kembo-Ekoko (4.0)
The Frenchman was too wasteful and greedy in the attack and should be concerned about his place in the starting XI.
Hadji (5.5)
The Moroccan international was completely muzzled by the Etienne defence and tried his best to make full use of the service he received. However, just one goal was all the former Nancy man could conjure. He was replaced by Dalmat in the 80th minute.
