In the columns of L’Equipe, Stade Rennais coach, Frederic Antonetti has expressed his desire to make the side a force to be reckoned with in the future and also said that he will be cautious with his ambitions.

Fifth in the Ligue, three points behind LOSC Lille, Stade Rennais are superbly placed to offer a great end to the season. Their coach Frederic Antonetti is aware that his side can do something big this time but cannot help but being cautious in his ambitions.
While talking to L’Equipe, the Frenchman said that he is happy to see his players doing so well but added that nothing is over so they need to be wary.
“To see the way we have played, we can say that we’re doing pretty well. It’s true, but wait, it’s not over.”
The Corsican tactician says that he is keen to get rid of the negative pressure surrounding his club. everyone is expecting the Bretons to qualify for the Champions League after long last but Antonetti says that these expectations generate a lot of negative
pressure.
“Everyone is always asking when Rennais will finally get there.
But since I’m here, I rarely hear good things about Rennais. This “negativity” is a form of pressure. We did not realise that we could be so close ten years ago.”
Certainly, Antonetti is right when he is trying to protect his club. Stade Rennais were never a club that would compete for top honours year in year out. However, under the Frenchman, the Bretons have certainly outdone themselves and have become a tough
team to breakdown.
Antonetti’s contract at the Route de Lorient will expire in June 2013 and the coach says that he is not worried about his future at the club.
“it would make sense that I go after my contract. But my bosses are happy with me. I am very much in Rennais where everything is well oiled.”
His arguments may convince observers and players but the pressure on the Bretons is logical after all, seeing the financial and sporting means the club possesses. Last season, Rennais almost qualified for the Champions League but for a poor end to the campaign.
One can now hope for the club to remove the tag of chokers once and for all in the future.
