Stade Rennais coach Frederic Antonetti looking for a striker – Ligue 1 news
Coach of Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, Frederic Antonetti is looking for a striker before he closes his business in this summer’s transfer window.
After already having signed Benedict Costil, Julien Feret, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Pitroipa-c19052, Rennes are now seriously considering bringing in a new striker to the Route de Lorient. Reports suggest that Antonetti is keen on signing either Chu Young Park of AS
Monaco or Turkish International Mevlut Erdinç who is currently playing for fellow Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
While talking to the media, Antonetti said that along with sporting director Peter Dreossi, the club is looking to build a competitive side ahead of the 2011/2012 campaign.
“We need an attacker who can add value to the squad. The owners no of our needs and they are willing to help us out in that aspect. The shareholders have agreed to bring in a new striker,” Antonetti said. However, the Frenchman made it clear that the club
will not buy a striker if he does not add value to the squad.
Antonetti admitted that it is difficult for clubs to compete with clubs who have a lot of resources and more swagger in the transfer window. “We need someone who can go deep and provides us things that we still lack. Victor Montano is a warrior but we want
to add someone different to him,” concluded the Rennais manager.
Last season, Victor http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Montano scored nine goals in 31 games in his first season for Rennais and when the Colombian international failed to find the net, Les Rouges et Noirs simply failed to score as many goals. Lack of a striker who could take the pressure
off Montano was one of the reasons why Rennais slipped from second to sixth in the final Ligue 1 standings.
In the upcoming campaign, Rennais will be playing in the UEFA Europa League which means that Frederic Antonetti must have a lot of depth in his squad in order to compete for both domestic and European honours.
