Tonight, Frederic Antonetti’s Stade Rennais will play against Quevilly in the semi-final of the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and the team is now looking to finally win a trophy after decades of agony
As Stade Rennais get ready to take on minnows Quevilly in the second semi-final of this season’s Coupe de France, there is an atmosphere of hope and anticipation around Brittany. the last time Rennais won the Coupe de France was way back in 1971 when they
beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 1-0 in the final at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes. Andre Guy scored the only goal of the game to hand Rennais their second Coupe de France trophy.
Ironically, the Bretons will be looking to yet again seal a berth in the final against Lyon who they beat all those years ago.
However, before that game, Antonetti’s side play against Quevilly who will not be pushovers by any means. The third-tier side beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 in the quarterfinals and will not come bearing gifts.
Last time when Rennais played the final of this competition was in 2009 when they lost to Ligue 2 side, Guingamp. That game is still in the minds of Rennais faithful and many players of the current squad. Guingamp and Rennais face a fierce rivalry and the
wounds of that defeat are still fresh for many Rennais players.
“I spoke with Romain Danze. For him and Jires Kembo, a wound is not completely healed. They are conscious of having missed out on something amazing and they have the heart to heal it,” says Benoit Costil.
Frederic Antonetti has done extremely well for Rennais and feels that his team deserves to win some silverware after years of pain.
“This club deserves success for the work done for years. It is clear that we want to win it.”
Pressure is certainly on Rennais to deliver and many fans are optimistic of finally seeing their side lift a trophy that has somehow always eluded them in the past.
Stade Rennais face a Quevilly side that has impressed a lot in the tournament and Antonetti will have to make sure that his side does not make any mistakes that could cost them dear.
