Stade Rennais looking to snap up West Ham left-back Herita Ilunga – Ligue 1 news
Stade Rennais have been in the transfer market for the search of a new left-back for several days. Les Rouges et Noirs were apparently on the verge of signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 left-back Jeremy Morel a few weeks ago. However, the pursuit of the 27-year-old proved
frugal for the Lorient-based club as the player chose to join http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 instead.
The Breton club is now linked with a host of left-backs in Europe. A few days ago, Rennes were linked with a possible move for Moroccan international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Badr-El-Kaddouri-c7163 who is currently playing for Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.
A few days ago, L’Equipe named Gaetan Bong (Valenciennes), Boukary Drame (out of contract at Sochaux Montbéliard) and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marek-Cech-c23842 (out of contract at West Bromwich Albion) as a few players who might be contacted by Stade Rennais.
L’Equipe now claims that Les Rouges et Noirs are now interested in the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Congo-c2875 international Herita Ilunga. The 29-year-old left-back was recently released by the club following the Hammers’ relegation to the second tier of English football.
Stade Rennes coach, Frederic Antonetti knows all about the Congolese defender who he signed from Espanyol B side when the Frenchman was a coach of Saint-Etienne. During his time at Saint-Etienne, Ilunga made 136 appearances between 2003 and 2007.
However, the former Toulouse man has seen a torrid side of a footballer’s life since joining West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2009. Between 2009 and 2011, Ilunga made just 27 league appearances for the London outfit. At the start of this year,
the Kinshasa-born defender was left out of West Ham’s 25-man squad for the remainder of the 2010/2011 English Premier League season.
A move to Stade Rennais would be a return to the club for Ilunga. Ilunga is a product of the Stade Rennais youth academy and although he never made any league appearances for the club, he might still consider joining the Breton club in order to resurrect
his career that has simply stood still since his arrival in London.
