Stadium lease default claim annoys Jacksonville Jaguars’ owner Shahid Khan -NFL News
The Pakistan-born American businessman, Shahid Khan, is not a happy man since he received a letter from the local council claiming his team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, has defaulted on its stadium lease.
Later, the communication was explained to have been done by a mistake by the local authorities, but it seems not to be a satisfactory explanation for the man who is into very first year of rebuilding his team to be a consistent winner on the field
Khan is reported to have replied to the authorities in equally befitting manner, forcing them to withdraw the claim.
Following Khan’s letter to Mayor Alvin Brown, the city wrote explanatory letters on the ‘misunderstanding’.
In a letter withdrawing the claim, general counsel, Cindy Laquidara, explained that the authorities had not known about the amendment in the contract between the city and the team.
Furthermore, the mayor also wrote a letter to Khan, explaining the entire situation.
Brown wrote:
"Let me be crystal clear: The city of Jacksonville has absolutely no intention whatsoever of terminating its lease with the Jacksonville Jaguars."
However, the authorities by then had received Khan’s reply who said in a letter:
"Mayor, I hope you can understand that I am shocked and perplexed at the city's actions. I am at a loss to understand the purpose of this drastic and unprecedented action."
Khan is particularly annoyed over the sending of the letter to a newspaper, which had made the claim their leading story of the day, doing some considerable damage to the team’s reputation.
According to Khan:
"The result of the delivery of the letter to the newspaper was a front page headline stating that the Jaguars were in a contract dispute with the city."
He added:
"The timing of the headline from the city's media activity could not have been timed worse for our ticket sales effort.”
Apparently, the entire saga has brought a sheer amount of disappointment for the owner and he still finds it very difficult to be over with development.
