Stadler, Stenson and Ishikawa chasing the leader McNeill in the third round of the Puerto Rico Open
The third round of the Puerto Rico Open is over and the American George McNeill is on a potential lead, at the Trump International Golf Club, Rio Grande in Puerto Rico.
He carded five impressive birdies and an eagle as well. He finished the round by scoring a 5-under 67 on Saturday, and maintained his leading position tremendously.
The 36-year-old American professional displayed an amazing performance in the three rounds of the tournament and is competing well against the others. He has a lead over Kevin Stadler and Henrik Stenson by one stroke.
"I played the back nine pretty well all week, so just tried to remember that and move forward.” McNeill said. "I feel comfortable with what I'm doing. I'm not saying I'm going to win, because you never know".
"I'll just try and continue to do exactly what I've been doing. I'm not going to force anything unless I have to coming down the last few holes," he added.
On Saturday, the winds suddenly started to blow at a high speed and the course became tougher than normal.
All the players faced challenges while scoring. However, McNeill made extra efforts in the tough conditions and scored well.
"You've got to stay patient when it's windy," McNeill said. "You have got to hit some different shots. And sometimes you just take what it gives you. Just patience is what I'll be trying to do (on Sunday)".
Since 2007, he has not won any of the PGA Tour titles. His position at the Puerto Rico Open is impressive and is confident to win the title on Sunday.
However, it is not that easy for him due to the other players chasing him. Stadler and Stenson finished the third round on the second position.
Their scores were a 12-under par and they are one stroke behind the leader. Both carded several birdies and mostly remained under par throughout the third round.
Similarly, The Japanese star Ryo Ishikawa is also chasing the leader. He scored a 10-under par and is looking to perform better in the final round.
Hence, McNeill has to be more impressive in the final round and if he again displays a good game, he can become the proud winner on the PGA-staged Puerto Rico Open.
