Staffordshire rout Northumberland by seven wickets
Staffordshire thumped Northumberland by seven wickets in a Group One match of the MCCA Trophy, at Highfield, Leek in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, June 5th, 2011. The visitors were bowled out for 177 runs in the 47th over of their innings, as
none of their batsmen managed to score a half-century. Staffordshire didn’t find any problems once they came out to bat and chased the target down in 28.1 overs, losing just three wickets.
Northumberland’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marc-Joseph-Symington-c74381, won the toss and decided to bat first. The conditions were good for batting and a high scoring game was expected, but the visitors’ batting failed miserably and were all out cheaply.
Opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Adam-Paul-Dale-c74489, was the first man to be dismissed in the visitors’ innings. He got out in the very first over of the match without scoring a single run, putting his team under immense pressure.
Symington also didn’t last long in the middle and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just 11 runs off 30 balls to the total. Northumberland was struggling at that stage with two wickets down for just 24 runs on the board.
However, the innings was held together by Daniel Young and Jonathan Craigs, who put together 69 runs for the third wicket partnership. The latter got out after scoring 37 runs from 52 balls. He would have been disappointed, missing out on a chance to make
a big impression for his team.
Young, who top scored the innings for his team, was dismissed after collecting 48 runs from 76 balls in his steady knock. He looked solid and was well settled, but failed to carry onto the start he got to his innings.
Paul Coughlin was the next man to follow after scoring 23 runs for his side. The lower-order failed to cope with the pressure and wickets kept on falling at regular intervals.
Cole Pearce continued the trend, failing to capitalise on the start to his innings and getting out for 20. The Northumberland innings was wrapped up for 177 in 46.5 overs.

The hosts were given a terrific job by their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 got out after adding 57 runs to the total.
Jeavons and Atiq Chishti were the only other wickets to fall in the Staffordshire innings. They managed 36 and 22 runs in their respective knocks.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Antony-Walter-Dawson-c67010 remained unbeaten on 34 and 12, guiding their side to victory in the 29th over of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-John-Cant-c93591 managed to cause a few problems for the batsmen, picking up a couple of wickets in the match.
