  1. Move them around to emphasize certian things. Do NOT keep them limp at your side! It makes you look nervose. Also, don't have 'alligator arms'. It is when you don't commit fully to the movements and you only move the bottom part of your arm- it looks stupid.

  2. All you have to do is follow your instincts. Where ever you feel like you hands should go, put them there. The only thing you should not do is be stiff. If you just stand there with you hands by your sides, not moving, it would usually look bad. It depends on the song you sing also. If it's a slow song, you should move your hands around freely and openly without it looking too sloppy. If you're singing a fast song, you should dance and move around the stage.

  3. okay when I performing on a stage I usually use my hands in gestures as if Im talking with the audience. I extend my arms or if its rock move my arms up and down, it depends on the type of music your singing.

  4. Well, if your choreographer gives you movement, then feel free to ask them...because they should give you something. If not, ask the director what they want. Sometimes you might be able to pantomime something in character, or the director wants you to do something specific. If that doesn't work, then keep your arms to your side unless gesturing. You don't want distraction from your beautiful voice! This is usually your best bet, even without questioning. Just keep them to your sides. Don't flail or wave them. Best of luck!

  5. Just keep your arms naturally at your sides

  6. depends on what your singing. but obviously one hand is holding the mic. the other could be anywhere. ANYWHERE. imagine the possiblilities. like in your pants. im sure thats illegal in most states though.

  7. try putting them on your hips!!!! use them to make picture of what your singing, go to you tube and watch people sing and get good ideas from them, hope it helped!!!

  8. It totally depends on what you're singing. Natural gestures usually complement what you're singing, but I see how you are worried about making it look awkward. One of my vocal coaches used to tell me that if it doesn't feel natural, then don't do it, and sometimes it is natural just to let your arms hang. Just try not to think about it so much and focus on what you're saying, then the movements will come into place.

  9. If you are doing like a musical theatre piece, then you should try to show the meaning of the lyrics you are singing through hand motions, but don't do them too often because it will look over acted. I would say to just express the meaning of what you are singing with your hands and arms.

  10. Use them to express what it is you are singing about...music is passion, be passionate!

  11. What kinda music are you playing

  12. if you have a mike then one hand is taken care of and when you sing if you really mean what ur singing ...ur other hand will just show them that you really mean the song...................but if you dont have a mike.....then hold them together infront of you or behind you..................................DON... cross your arms....cuase that is body language for closing off ppl...wich you DONT want to do.................try to be yourself....and mostly just sing the song from your heart and then no one will pay attion to your arms...

  13. It's really funny cuz I was reading the answers and it's obvious that none of the answerers have ever been on stage..cuz if they were, they'd would know that once you're actually on the stage, you're not thinking about your hands or anything, you're thinking about the audience!
