With looming departure of Hugo Lloris, Vercoutre has finally gotten the chance to make his long-awaited mark, subject to departure of the current number 1 to Tottenham
The 32-year-old, having spent almost a decade at the club, but still only able to bag 40 caps to his belt, Vercoutre has never been able to impress his bosses at the club. But with Hugo Lloris, the highly rated shot-stopper, caught in the midst of potential
bids from different clubs, the proposed departure of Lyon’s number one seems imminent.
If things go according to plan and Lyon gets an appreciable offer from any of the interested parties, then in such an eventuality, the club will offload their star goalkeeper from their folds. Remy Vercoutre then, will be the first choice to start the season,
and he has already been informed about that.
But, according to the club’s current choice number 2, he has been to such situations before. The visibly unmoved keeper added, “This is not a new situation for me. It’s been years now that it’s hard when I have to prepare myself, without really knowing whether
I play or do not. It does not change my daily life or my preparation”.
However, the player was quick to add that such a call-up indeed gives hope because anything is still better than nothing. The determined player also talked about how adjusted he feels in the club’s atmosphere. The columns in Progress quoted him as, “If there
are some who do not feel good at Lyon, I feel very well.”
The former Montpellier man, caught in a mixture of feelings, agreed that there is little hope he would be the club’s number one but instead did not want to get carried away in the discussion. Though, the desire of the footballer to play for the club was
visible as he said, “It’s true that it itches to play, have fun”.
Tottenham Hotspur, have over the summer, emerged as one of the favourites to land the star goalkeeper’s signature, after it has become apparent that the age of the current custodian, Brad Friedel, will not be guaranteeing him a place in starting eleven every
time.
