Stage is ready for the lucrative event of India Open Super Series 2011
The stage is ready for the lucrative event of the India Open Super Series which will kick off in New Delhi, India on April 26.
It is for the first time that India Open is given the status of Super Series event which is offering lucrative prize money of US $200,000. The Badminton Association of India is determined to host such major events with regular intervals, which will increase
the popularity of the game in India.
This Super Series tournament will have extensive media coverage as more than 150 countries will be able to watch live matches of the events. In India, a popular sports channel will provide full coverage of the matches of this important event.
The tournament secretary of BAI, K.Ch. Punnaiah Choudary said, “This is the first time in India that such an event with biggest prize money so far, amounting to $200,000, is being organised.”
The participation of the world class shuttlers from all over the world will motivate the young shuttlers to work hard for becoming elite player in this game. Punnaiah said, “In this event, the world’s top ranking players in men’s and women’s singles and
doubles are participating. This itself is a huge opportunity for our youngsters to learn and get experience from.”
The secretary is also optimistic for the future of the game in India as he expressed his views, “Such types of big events could also boost badminton in our country. We are committed to organise such event on a regular basis from now on.”
The India Open was a grand prix event which is upgraded to the Super Series status due to the improvements of the game in the country. Indian players have become competent as compared to a few years back and now they are participating in all major events
at the international level.
