Stage is set for Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 – Badminton News
The stage is ready for the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, which is going to kick-off at Basel, Switzerland, on March 15.
In the absence of the top seeds including Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan, Taufiq Hidayat, Chen Jin, Chen Long and Peter Hoeg Gade, the field is open for the lower ranked shuttlers to improve their ranking for participating in the Badminton World Federation (BWF)
Badminton World Championships 2011, which will be held in August at Wembley, England.
In the Men’s singles draw, Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen is the top seed, whereas, Indonesia’s Simon Santoso occupies the second seed spot in the tournament. In the first round of the event, the Danish will open his campaign against Ville Lang of Finland.
The number one seed is expected to meet the semi-finalist of the All England Premier Super Series 2011, Kazushi Yamada of Japan in the round-of-16. Kazushi will be playing against Wisnu Haryo Putro of Italy in the opening round. In the following round, he
will meet either Marcel Reuter of Germany or Chetan Anand of India.
Number eight seed, Dicky Palyama of Netherlands will start his journey in the event against Pedro Martins of Portugal. In the round-of-16, Palyama is supposed to meet the twelfth seed Malaysian veteran, Wong Choong Hann, who will be up against Jan Vondra
of Czech Republic in the opening round.
Number four seed, Park Sung Hwan of Korea will also be competing in the same half of the draw. Other notable players in the upper half of the Men’s singles draw are seventh seed, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia and14th seed, Przemyslaw Wacha
of Poland. Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia, who lost his first round match in the All England tournament, will also be competing in this half of the draw.
In the lower half of the draw, number two seed Simon Santoso will start his run against Kristian Midtgaard of Denmark. If things go according to the paper, Simon will be meeting the 15th seed Brice Leverdez of France in the round-of-16. England’s
Rajiv Ouseph, who is number three seed, is expected to play against the ninth seed Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in the round-of-16. Hafiz Hashim will play his first-round-match against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand and will be meeting either Dieter Domke of
Germany or Scott Evans of Ireland in the second round.
Number six seed, P Kashyap of India will start his fight against Sven Eric Kastens of Germany. If he gets rid of the German, he will have bright chances to meet the thirteenth seed, Sho Sasaki of Japan in the round-of-16.
