Question:

Stage name suggestions for aspiring actress?

Hey everyone.

I'm an aspiring actress and recently I've been toying with the idea of having a stage name.

Right now, my name is Aishah Zaid Hamzah.

I think it'll be easier for people to remember my name if I anglicize or shorten my name abit.

I still would like a name that starts with A, and maybe it could still reflect my Asian/Arabic/Chinese heritage.

I was thinking of Anna, Alanna, Alia/Aliyah, Aleesha/Alysha, Adara, Aerin, Amberlee or Amberlynn.

All these names have Arabic origins.

No clue what to do about my last name though.

  1. Alysha Hamza is way cool.

  2. When you get experienced enough and want - and NEED - to join Equity, they will help you in that respect - if only to make sure that the name you choose isn't already used by somebody else.

  3. I would advise against a stage name.I took one 25 years ago when I joined Equity. It was the thing to do at that time but nowadays the trend has changed. I really regret it especially as my Equity name bears no relation to my legal name. You also need a bank account in your stage name which can be awkward. Most importantly it is the name  Aisah Zaid Hamzah that you want to see in the credits. It gets confusing for me when Im in mixed company and known by two separate names.also your passport still will be in your legal name. If you still want to change try to choose a name similar to your own name.Dont Anglicise it keep your heritage it is a part of who you are. My only suggestion would be Asha Zahid.

  4. Jenna Taylia

  5. Asha Sheen.

Short, simple, to the point, with a phonetic link to to your Arabic roots.

Plus you'd be a big hit with the stoner crowds, and there's a lot of us...

Hamzah... hamzah.... any relation to the fascist extremist muslim cleric?

  6. Aiszaham just roles off the tongue. If it works how about 10% of your first fee after using it. Oh well it was worth a try.

  7. The word "actress" has been replaced by "actor". Males and females are actors.

  8. there is really no need to change your name, unless you find someone else in equity has the same one as you and you need to change it.  your name is different and will stand out, its also pretty.  if you want to simplify it a little go ahead,  aisha hamzah sounds great.

i changed my name when i first started working to make it more unusual as my first name was rather common, but unless your name is something really horrible like 'ava crapp' for instance i would keep your own. changing mine eventually forced me to change it leagally so my bank accounts and passport were in the same name as i was being paid.

    good luck

  9. What about Alannah Fluff?
