Stagecoach Pearl suited by drop in trip in Kelso’s Mayfield Restaurant Chase (Limited Handicap)
Stagecoach Pearl, who was last year’s all-the-way winner, is going to make best of the drop back in trip after taking third on his seasonal comeback at 2m4f a couple of weeks ago. The 8-year-old just needs to deliver his one hundred percent to thrive in
Mayfield Restaurant Chase (Limited Handicap), being hosted by Kelso on Saturday, November 10, 2012.
Sue Smith’s trainee performed magnificently ahead of going on a long vacation in January. On his penultimate start, the gelding was second to Quicuyo at Doncaster. His Kelso record is also fine.
On his previous visit here, the John Conroy Jaqueline Conroy-owned was an impressive winner. He faced no difficultly in winning last year’s edition of this race. In the hands of Henry Oliver, the 5-2 favourite mainly jumped well, and made all.
Although the son of Classic Cliche was not fluent in the middle stages, he ran wonderfully to go ahead. Bred by R. F. Broad, the dashing gelding kept on gamely to capture the first rank by a couple of lengths.
Even though success has not come to his way since then, the sweet memories of that victory are still fresh. He is in good shape following a decent act last time, and should replicate what he did last year.
Tito Bustillo, who is open to further improvement over fences after an easy win last time, is the likeliest danger. Lucinda Russell’s trainee showed a lot of progress on the previous two occasions.
After bagging the runner-up spot in the Miller Howe Beginners' Chase, he raised his game to seal a comfortable win at Cartmel. After two wonderful acts, the son of Kahyasi is full of spirit, and can offer more goods.
The contest is scheduled to begin at 14:40 GMT. Over a distance two miles and one furlong, half a dozen contenders will compete for a handsome prize of £9,747.
De Boitron gets going too late, and the record when fresh is moderate. Ultimate is unexposed as a chaser, and could go close in first-time cheekpieces. Kings Grey was second or third on last seven starts, and needs just a slice of luck. The return to this
distance should suit Idarah, but more is probably needed.
