Question:

Stained a table and chairs - now they look different?

Hi,

I got a wooden table and chairs from different places (both secondhand). The table was a light grey colour, and the chairs were a faded teaky shade. I stained them both with "rich teak" and the chairs are now a uniform colour of teak - very close to what they were before, but the table has gone much darker - v dark brown.

I guess I will just live with it as they are different woods, but can I do anything to the table - is it worth sanding it all down and preparing it differently? (I cleaned it before with sugar soap but didn't sand down)

thanks

  1. use a bleach wash ,,,,,,,,,,,,dilute blech and water 50 50 and wipe over wood leave to dry in sunlight it may work i dunno really it does work for bleaching wood may be to severe to just lighten

  2. You may sand it down if you have the time and energy to do it and then stain it agian.  But be careful because even then the colour might not come exactly the same as the chairs because the timber is not the same kind and the original colour is not the same also.

I suggest that you try a small portion where it is not very visible before you go for it all.
