Question:

Staining a fence made of pressure treated lumber?

We just had a fence put up in our yard made from pressure-treated lumber. The installer said NOT to stain it for around 1 year. He said there was moisture inside the wood that need to dry out, before we could effectively apply a stain.

Does this make sense? Is the bare wood safe as is? (from water, etc.)

  1. He is totally correct..same with pressure treated decks etc..6 months to a year ..if you will actully go out and stick a thumbnail into this wood about 1/16  of an inch then feel it..you can literaly see the dampness..actually go take a piece of the left over scraps..and take a pair of pliers and squezze the fire out of it..watch all the moisture that comes to the surface..

  2. u dont need a yr..six months is enough.......

  3. Yes, it's fine. The "pressure treated" means it is already protected from moisture.
