Question:

Stains on dresses?

My aunt just had a house fire and lost everything except what was in the basement. She had 2 beautiful gowns that got wet and were up against eachother. Now the gold one has red and the red one has black fron the dresses. Does anyone know any at home remedies that could take the dyes or stains out of the dresses? Thank you to all that could help.

  1. I really think you need professional help in this instance - in the form of a dry cleaner otherwise you may damage the fabric - it depends on what value you place on the garments as to whether you do take them to drycleaner - if they are irreplaceable then it would make sense to do so. I think something like oxyaction or similar oxy cleaners would be too drastic on them

  2. If the gowns can be washed, I would let them soak in 1/2 cup oxiclean powder dissolved in warm water an hour to overnight then was in cold gentle cycle on a front loading washer. air dry or fluff

  3. Here I thought this would be a question I could refer to Bill Clinton.  I'd try calling a dry cleaner or perhaps a dress maker, they'd probably know the best method.
