Question:

Stalling after driving through tire depth standing water?

Today I was driving through the parking lot in a rain storm when I drove through a somewhat long fairly deep puddle. It was about as tall as the tires, and I was in it for about 4-6 seconds. The car then stalled, the engine and battery lights came on. It had stopped raining, and it was out of the water, so I restarted it. It was very weak, and wouldnt go above 2000 RPMs without stalling. So I let it sit a while and it was better, and then I let it sit even more and now it's totally fine.

Do you think there's any damage done, in driving it while in that condition, or just simply the once through that puddle? What should I do?

  1. Car or Truck? Half or all the tire? Possible going a little too fast and splashed water onto the Plug Wires, Ignition, Hot Alternator. Most likely not but since it did stall it's worth a look top to bottom.

  2. Try to check out this site http://www.cartechhome.com it has a lot of information on car stalling problem

  3. you probably got water in the distributer and on the plugs and plug wires.

  4. yer you probly got the plugs or coil wet, there is really no permanent damage, once the water is dried it should be fine, the plugs may get a little rusted which will hinder performance but there are a $2 part

  5. sounds like you got the plugs and wires wet and now they have dried out.. yea it should be fine.. but if you feel unsafe you can always have it completely checked out by a mechanic for about 30 bucks no prob.
