Stan James Laurels preview: part one
The first round of the Stan James Laurels begins on Thursday. Bucks Yahoo is the early favourite with 13-2 odds, and will race in heat five.
Below we preview the third and fourth heats.
Heat three
The third heat will see at least one greyhound with decent odds to win the Laurels be eliminated as Mill Pinpoint, Jordansoilutions, Jodran Light, and Yahoo Jamie are all going against each other.
Mill Pinpoint is 10-1 to win the Laurels, and will race from the first trap in this one. He’s won four of his last five races, and looks good to advance to the second round.
Jordansoilutions has the second best odds to win the Laurels behind Bucks Yahoo at 7-1, and will race from the second trap. Other than a fifth place finish at Yarmouth earlier this month, he’s looked good of late, winning three of four races.
Jordan Light is 16-1 to win the whole thing, but the difficult early draw could see him as the odd dog out. Light finished in fifth place in his last race, 12¾ lengths back of the winner, and will start in the third trap.
Razldazl Dazl might have been able to dazzle in one of the other heats, but probably not in this one. He’s finished in the top three in his last five races, but his competition in this heat is a cut above his recent competition.
In the fifth trap is Yahoo Jamie, who has odds of 14-1 to take the Laurels. Jamie hasn’t won in his past three races, but has two second place finishes. Any mistakes and Jamie could fail to qualify for the second round.
November Weather will race from trap six. He won his last race, but is not expected to finish in the top three tomorrow.
Heat four
Spinkys Nod has won his last two races, and has 16-1 odds to win the Laurels. She’ll go from trap one, and should have little difficulty qualifying for the next race.
In trap two is Ballymac Ace, a 10-1 favourite to win the Laurels. He won his last race after losing the two previous to Jordansoilutions and Bucks Yahoo. Ace should finish on top in this race with both Jordansoilutions and Yahoo drawing other heats.
In trap three is Droopys Ruso, who could qualify for the next round, but will probably not compete for top spot in this race. Ruso hasn’t won a race since May.
Little Gaffer has finished in the top three of his last five races, and could provide some competition for Nod and Ace, but he will have to improve upon his starts to do so.
In the fifth trap is Gaytime Mal, who has won two of his last three, but took fifth in the two races previous to that.
Baliff Sparky drew trap six, but took fourth the last time he raced from it. He ran from trap four in his last race and won by 8¼ lengths.
