Stan Van Gundy says Derrick Rose might leave Chicago Bulls in not so distant future – NBA News
Stan Van Gundy knows the art of getting people’s attention and he sparked a controversy (yet another one) when he appeared on a radio show in Orlando. The former Magic coach said that he will not be surprised if Derrick Rose parts
ways with the Chicago Bulls in the near future should he be unable to live his dreams with the franchise, sending a chill wave through the windy city that is home to the Bulls franchise.
Van Gundy appeared on AM 740’s The Game in Orlando, and was at his verbose best:
““I think the interesting one coming up in the future is going to be Derrick Rose. I think Derrick Rose is a great, great representative of our league, and he’s a great player. And he’s got good players around him, very good players
around him, but if (the Bulls) can’t get another star there for him is he eventually going to look around and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got to work this out on my own and I’ve got to find somehow to get somewhere else so that I will have a chance to play with another
star.’ The league has changed.”
Rose suffered an ACL injury in Game 1 of the Bulls’ first round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. He was sidelined for the rest of the season and the Bulls were eliminated, after finishing at the top of the Eastern
Conference in the regular season and being one of the favourites to reach the NBA Finals.
The talented one guard is already a four year veteran to the NBA, and this was the second year of bitter disappointment. Last year, Rose and the Bulls lost to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
With Rose expected to be out for 8 to 10 months, he is likely going to miss a big chunk of the next NBA season, leaving the Bulls out of championship contention for next season as well.
The Chicago Bulls also underwent major roster changes in the offseason, almost completely changing their bench players. Many people have criticized the Bulls for parting ways with role players who had proven their talent and commitment
to the club over the past two seasons.
Moreover, the Bulls once again did not add a key player to their roster in an attempt to strengthen it, and are now looking at 2014 as the year in which they will add a star player to pair with Rose and get back into championship
contention.
With all that has happened with the Bulls franchise over the past few months, Van Gundy’s statement may not be that hard to believe after all, as Rose might also get frustrated with the Bulls inability to make a championship contending
team by recruiting key players.
Like LeBron James and now Dwight Howard, Rose may also think about changing his team if the Bulls are unable to win a championship in the near future.
Ever since the Boston Celtics compiled the big three and won an NBA championship, players are now looking to win championships rather than making themselves the face of franchises and building the franchise into a successful one.
Which road Rose takes will only be determined by the future success of the Bulls.
