i need to do a speech and essay on any topic I want. the speech has to go for 6 minutes, and the essay must be at least 1 page long.

i want to do stand up comedy because people would be interested in jokes rather than talking about someones life or something (biography)

So how can i get the right jokes for a year 9 class? i don't want silly jokes you tell to your friends, i need jokes like experiences and stuff. can you guys help me out??

and also how can i write an essay on stand up??? wikipedia doesn't have much on that topic (strangely). please help.

any advice would be helpful.

thanks everyone

  1. "I've had a wonderful evening. This wasn't it"

    -Groucho Marx

The only advice I can offer is doing an essay on WHY exactly it is that we laugh. Use example good jokes and bad jokes.

  2. For your essay, I recommend looking at these webpages.

    http://www.soyouwanna.com/site/syws/stan...

They detail all the things you need to be a stand up comic. Also, ten write about famous stand up comics and give examples of their jokes, which illustrate their style

E.G. Bill Hicks was a American comedian with an acerbic, cynical style who often made controversial speeches regarding topics such as drug use and religion. Speaking about smoking, he said "      ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœThe worst kind of non-smokers are the ones that come up to you and cough. That's pretty f****** cruel isn't it? Do you go up to cripples and dance too?” His overuse of swearwords brought home the passion with which he holds his opinions.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how to advise you to do a comedy routine, but good luck!

  3. Stand up is all about life and observational humour.Look at Peter Kay,Lee Evans or any of the great stand up comedians, all they do is put a comedic spin on their true life stories.Ask family members about stuff that happened to you,u never know what stories they could come out with

As for your essay why don't you write more about what makes stand up comedy good. Just be sure to add in a few interesting facts about the where stand up comedy started and stuff and you should be alright.Plus if u get the chance try reading a few comedian autobiographies, that might help u gain a better understanding
