Question:

Standard ECU's for Moto GP?

Carmelo Ezepeleta has suggested that Moto GP bikes should have Standard ECU's.

Is this just a threat in the same vein as the "single make tyre rule", in order to get manufacturers and riders to agree on the level of electronics used?

Or is this proposal a good thing, taking away the technology and giving back the importance of a riders skill?

Personally I think that the most skillful riders will always come out on top, no matter what gizmo's are given to them. You just have to look at all the Ducati boys. They all had the same equipment!

Your thoughts please.

  1. I hate all the standards (tires I can kind of understand), but making too many items standard takes away the inventiveness of the different teams and stops technology in it's tracks....good question though...it's a double edged sword for sure...technology in the GP scooters I mean.

  2. Hey Neil,

I think the fella's above have said more or less what I feel, which is that you can't stop progress (and shouldn't try) and unless it is just a money making scheme, why would you want to?

The engineers can tweak these bikes all they like, but untill they find a way to give people the balls (and the stamina) to ride them like demons for 10 months of the year in all conditions - bring it on!

Also - hope this Esposito fella gets the message - keep your nose out!

  3. Very good point from Max there. If you want one make this, and production this and that, go watch W.S.B or your local Clubman Auto 66 meeting. (same thing really )

Ezepeleta is pretty much, one step away from turning into Bernie ( f**k off and dont come back ) Eccelstone.

That man nearly crippled my beloved 500cc / MotoGP championship. All he wanted was to line his own pockets with sponsers cash.

I feel Carmelo is on the same slippy slope.

Bernie screwed things over so bad in the early 1990's that even Honda failed to get a sponser in 1994. HONDA ! With out a sponser? Rothmans pulled out after backing the big H for the last 400 years and Honda was left with this : http://bp2.blogger.com/_Mvhjidbvdzc/Rns4... .

This whole one make deal, is a pocket liner.

If the sport has found another Bernie, then replace him with a man who loves the sport with all his heart.

I can think of 4 men up to task. One is in that picture link, the other riders the only 2 seater MotoGP in the world, one is known better for his number, #34 and the last man is " Mr inch perfect " . Wayne Rainey.

Why all four are ex riders ? Passion. Thats why.

Standard ECU's ? Give them to the Flammini Group. They might some more spares.

  4. Nope,  that level of racing is all about the highest level

and aspirations (no pun) of competition and technology.

Really big bucks,  and really big bangs.

That's what sponsors,  the manufacturers, and teams and pay for,  that's what I,  amoung many fans expect, and pay for.

If I want to see riders on equal equipment,  I can attend

my local superstock club racing events.

    It's a simple as that.

    LuvUall,  Ba-Bye.

  5. Hi Neil. I agree the riders always show through. and as with the tyres.   let development develop. the others always catch up when one gets ahead of the game as I'm sure we will see Ducatti reeled in this next season.
