Standard Liege star Steven Defour on the radar of FC Porto – Portuguese Primeira Liga News
Standard Liege’s highly rated midfielder, Steven Defour, is reportedly being monitored by Portuguese giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, who are looking to sign the Belgian star as a replacement for the departing Fredy Guarin.
25-year-old Guarin is believed to be on the verge of completing a €30 million move to AS Roma and following his intention to exit the club, FC Porto have been on the hunt to replace him with a player of similar qualities.
The Portuguese giants have now targeted Steven Defour of Standard Liege as a replacement and are thought to have opened up talks with their Belgian counterparts for their coveted asset.
Defour has regularly been praised for his scintillating performances and even won the Golden shoe award in the Belgian league. However his biggest achievement to date has been drawing the attention of English Premier League giants, Manchester United.
The Red Devils were set to close in on the 23-year-old in 2009 but unfortunately for the player, he broke his foot during a match and United unwillingly quelled their interest.
While he does not generate as many headlines as before, Defour still possesses the quality and skill to succeed at the highest level in not only http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 but also in Europe. Consistently representing his country, the former Genk man has also amassed a wealth
of experience at International level and given his young age, is still to reach the prime of his career.
With such an impressive resume, it’s no wonder that the Dragons are eager to secure the services of the Diables Rouges International, whose interest was confirmed by Defour’s agent, Paul Stefani.
“Porto called me for information about Defour. They told Standard about their interest. Mr. Antero Henry called me to know how the situation of Defour and said that there may be a proposal. But we have to wait a few days.” Stefani revealed to the media.
Stefani also went on to say that while the details of the ongoing negotiations cannot be revealed, an update will be announced shortly.
"In two or three days there may be news," he concluded.
With FC Porto looking to sign a quality midfielder and Steven Defour looking to move to a bigger club, the match seems ideal and a deal is expected to be struck in the upcoming weeks.
