Question:

Standing Supported Squat Delivery?

I was wondering if anyone has ever delivered a baby with the standing supported squat method. That is where your partner puts his hands under your armpits & supports you as you slightly squat down. I have read in a few magazines it's one of the best ways to deliver naturally, it helps with the pain of contractions, increases the opening of your pelvis up to 15% & well of course gravity is on your side, which will make it easier & in most cases faster to deliver. These all sound great to me, but the thought of natural childbirth is still pretty scary to me! Please share any stories! I would love to hear.

  1. It is always good to have a plan and to take control of your situation. Just realize that as you go thru the labor, you will find what feels good as you go along. I had 2 home births with a midwife. They both went well-one of them I sat on the toilet and labored that way-that is what worked. The last one the baby was turned and it was more difficult. The only thing that really relieved pain was for my husband to rub my lower back-and he did!! He labored with me!!! I had wanted a water birth-but no private place for a pool. I found it helpful to read books-there was a couple about squatting and preparing for birth. I also watched videos of home birthing to try and get an idea of what to expect. Good luck to u & ur family!

  2. hi there, i delivered 2 of my 4 babies this way and it was much quicker, easier and there was a lot less pushing. my last labor i had an eppi and had to lie down, it was so much worse, i strongly recommend trying standing/squatting. my 2 deliveries using this technique were quicker and a whole lot less painful, my last baby got stuck while i was laying down and had to be pulled out causing tears,(sorry to be so graphic) the dr said if i hadn't of had the eppi and i stood up to push none of that would have happened. that being said she was 10 pound six and I'm still glad i had the eppi. i guess you just have to weigh up the pro's and cons and go with what feels right at the time. good luck and i wish you a quick and healthy delivery
