Stanford men’s volleyball team defeats University of California, Los Angeles – Volleyball news
Cardinal’s men’s volleyball team had a night to remember on Saturday. The team put on an outstanding performance, with both its attack and defence playing the game to the best of their abilities.
With such a tremendous team effort from the Cardinals, the number seven ranked University of California, Los Angeles could not do much to avoid a decisive clean sweep, dealt them by their opponents.
The victory that the Cardinals have been able to achieve just recently was obtained in a Mountain Pacific Sport Federation match. The Cardinals were able to give their fans much reason for joy by securing three back-to-back sets at the following set scores:
25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
The win has brought the number third ranked Cardinals 18 victories so far this season. These wins have been achieved by recording defeats that total to be eight in all. If the MPSF statistics of the Cardinals is considered than the amount of wins that they
have been able to register equal to be 14. These wins have been bagged at the expense of suffering losses that total to be seven so far.
As opposed to the performance statistics of the Cardinals, UCLA has not done poorly themselves in both conference play and overall season. The number of times UCLA has been able to tally wins in this season so far equal to be 16. They have had these causes
of celebrations after having gone through losses that amount to be 12 until this point.
However, the MPSF record of UCLA shows a higher number of losses than the victories they have been able to register. The number of times that UCLA has won MPSF matches equal to be nine. In comparison, UCLA has had to suffer defeats in MPSF a total of 11
times.
Not only did Stanford hand out defeat to the Bruins, they also made a very quick job out of it. The entire duration of the match was slightly over an hour. All the credit for such a sound win goes to the well-collaborated attack and defence of the Stanford
team.
As soon as the first set of the match started, Stanford took the front on the offensive. They did not waste time in hammering down relentless kills on UCLA, in whose response they could not do much.
In this way, Stanford kept the pressure on UCLA all through the first set o the game. Once the Cardinals had the advantage, they kept on extending their lead until they had bagged the first set of the game at 25-18.
Losing the first set of the match further decreased the performance of UCLA while Stanford stepped up their game even more. As a result, they were able to seal the deal by winning the second and the third sets as well.
Stanford will now be playing their final match of MPSF at Pacific.
