Stanislav Donets accomplishes Men’s 100m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Stanislav Donets of Russia accomplished gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
Donets devastated hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he proved his mettle for the title. With his strong determination and quickest response to the start, Donets gained a marginal lead over his opponents and cruised his way towards the finishing
blockade for gold medal.
His commendable effort remained more than half a body length ahead of his following swimmer as he seized gold medal of the race in a wonderful time of 50.02 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Robert Hurley of Australia, who was 0.71 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher by producing a phenomenal time of 50.73 seconds.
Hurley was trailed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and finished third in the race by submitting a fantastic effort of 51.04 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Guilherme Guido of Brazil, who was only 0.03 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 51.07 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Yuki Shirai of Japan, who was 0.36 seconds slower from overpowering her preceding swimmer and appeared on the finishing end with an effort of 51.43 seconds.
Similarly, Shirai remained 0.31 seconds ahead of Hayate Matsubara of Japan, who ended his swim in a time of 51.74 seconds for sixth position.
Matsubara faced tough competition from Jan-Philip Glania throughout the race but managed to outsmart him over the wall by just an inch. Glania stayed only 0.05 seconds slower from his former finisher and ended seventh in the event with an effort of 52.79
seconds.
Last spot of the race was gained by Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland, who was 1.13 seconds apart and posted an effort of 53.92 seconds.
In addition, Donets was extremely pleased with his top finish in the backstroke event and stressed that he would continue his hard work in order to achieve the same at upcoming swimming competitions.
