Stanislav Donets clinches Men’s 50m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Stanislav Donets of Russia clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Thursday, October 18.
The Russian swimmer met expectations of his supporters by dominating the playoff of the shortest backstroke discipline. With his unrelenting efforts, he faced no trouble from his challengers in the second half and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade
for gold medal.
His impeccable pace remained almost two arm-strokes ahead of his toughest competitor as he tapped the wall for gold medal with a fascinating timing of 23.31 seconds.
His stupendous effort remained 0.42 seconds faster from Robert Hurley of Australia, who followed him on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a wonderful time of 23.73 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Guilherme Guido of Brazil, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall for third position by clocking a nice effort of 23.81 seconds.
Guido was trailed by Vitaly Borisov of Russia, who stayed nearly half a body length slower and settled on the wall as fourth position holder by producing a time of 24.30 seconds.
Borisov was chased by Sergey Makov of Russia, who was 0.05 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by producing a time of 24.35 seconds.
Subsequently, Makov was traced by Pavel Sankovich of Bulgaria, who remained just a touch away from improving his position but finished his race in sixth best place by posting a time of 24.40 seconds.
Sankovich was followed by Gabriel Mangabeira of Brazil, who was 0.30 seconds apart and secured seventh position of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 24.70 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Anton Butymov of Russia, who remained 0.12 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 24.82 seconds.
In addition, Donets was extremely contented with his title claiming effort and said that he would try his level best to work hard in future and achieve the same at forthcoming events.
