Stanislav Donets conquers Men’s 50m backstroke prelims – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Stanislav Donets of Russia conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 50m backstroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Russian swimmer remained comfortably ahead of his opponents throughout the shortest backstroke discipline and earned his way into the final as top contender for gold medal.
With his unrelenting efforts, Donets went full rampant in the 50m discipline and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for top position by producing an effort of 23.69 seconds.
The top qualifying swimmer was followed by Robert Hurley of Australia, who stayed 0.35 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 24.04 seconds for second position.
Hurley was followed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed nearly half body length slower from his foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end as third fastest swimmer by touching the wall with an effort of 24.47 seconds.
Delaney was followed by Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland, who remained 0.13 seconds apart and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by submitting an effort of 24.60 seconds.
Subsequently, Kawecki was chased by Omar Pinzon of Colombia, who suffered a loss of 0.09 seconds from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for fifth best qualification spot with an effort of 24.69 seconds.
Sixth best qualifying position of the race was obtained by Nelson Silva Junior of Brazil, who was 0.06 seconds behind and qualified into the final round with an effort of 24.75 seconds.
Silva Junior was traced by Yu Zhang of China, who remained 0.09 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade for seventh position by touching the wall with a timing of 24.84 seconds.
Eighth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Taiqi Lin of China, who stayed 0.64 seconds slower from improving his position but appeared on the wall with a timing of 25.48 seconds.
Donets received huge round of applause from the audience for his undisputed effort and stressed that he would try hard to occupy gold medal by continuing the same in playoff.
