Stanislav Donets grabs Men’s 50m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Stanislav Donets of Russia grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Russian swimmer devastated hopes of his opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline and proved his eligibility for the crown. Donets showed no mercy to his opponents in the 50m discipline and secured the title of the event.
With his relentless efforts in the short course 50m event, Donets remained marginally ahead of his opponents over the finishing end and touched the wall for gold medal by producing a phenomenal time of 23.49 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Robert Hurley of Australia, who suffered a loss of just 0.06 seconds from his foregoing finisher and ended his race in second place by touching the wall with a timing of 23.55 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who was 0.31 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third best finisher by ending his swim in a time of 23.86 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Omar Pinzon of Colombia, who remained half a body length behind and concluded his race in a time of 24.47 seconds.
Similarly, Pinzon was followed by Yu Zhang of China, who stayed 0.09 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as fifth fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 24.56 seconds.
Zhang was traced by Nelson Silva Junior of Brazil, who was 0.07 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing end for sixth position by clocking an effort of 24.63 seconds.
Silva enjoyed an advantage of 1.01 seconds over Taiqi Lin of China, who completed his race in seventh place by submitting a time of 25.64 seconds.
Abdullah Althuwaini of Kuwait did not swim in the final round and was unable to secure any position.
In addition, Donets was extremely pleased with his title claiming effort and stressed that he would try his level best to impress his fans by achieving the same at upcoming international events.
