Stanislav Donets grabs Men’s 50m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Stanislav Donets of Russia grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
Donets spoiled the party of his opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline as he remained a tough nut to crack. The Russian swimmer went on a rampage in the two-lap race and devastated hopes of his opponents by seizing the title.
With his continuous efforts, Donets remained in a lead of two strokes over his closest competitor and emerged on the wall for gold medal with a fantastic timing of 23.16 seconds.
The champion was followed by Robert Hurley of Australia, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and emerged on the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 23.57 seconds.
Hurley was chased by Guilherme Guido of Brazil, who was 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as second position holder with a timing of 23.63 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed 0.15 seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 23.78 seconds.
Delaney was trailed by Flori Lang of Switzerland, who stayed 0.60 seconds away from upsetting his preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for fifth position by producing an effort of 24.38 seconds.
Lang was traced by Christian Diener, who stayed 0.11 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall for sixth position by posting a time of 24.49 seconds.
Diener enjoyed an advantage of 0.49 seconds over Mans Hjelm of Sweden, who did not make any notable improvement in his qualification time and completed his race in seventh place by producing an effort of 24.98 seconds.
Hjelm was traced by Nicolas Graesser of Germany, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 25.16 seconds for eighth position.
Donets was overjoyed with his gold pocketing performance and stressed that he would train harder to make his fans proud by accomplishing the same at elite levels of swimming events.
