Stanislav Donets occupies Men’s 100m backstroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Stanislav Donets of Russia occupied gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on first day of the concluding stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The Russian swimmer smothered his opponents in the playoff of the backstroke discipline and proved his eligibility for the crown. With his notable efforts in the sprint event, Donets escaped his closest rival over the wall for the title.
He enjoyed a lead of half body length over his strongest opponent and clocked a wonderful time of 49.82 seconds for gold medal.
With his notable efforts in the discipline, Donets remained 0.49 seconds slower from Robert Hurley of Australia, who sprinted his way towards the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a nice time of 50.31 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed 0.38 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 50.69 seconds for bronze medal.
Similarly, fourth spot of the race was obtained by Yuki Shirai of Japan, who stayed almost 0.80 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 51.45 seconds.
Shirai was traced by Benjamin Edmonds of Australia, who stayed two body lengths apart and surfaced on the wall as fifth position holder by clocking a time of 53.41 seconds.
Edmonds was followed by Kazuki Watanabe of Japan, who was 0.75 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 54.16 seconds for sixth place.
Watanabe was traced by Robert Jovanovic of Australia, who stayed 0.52 seconds slower and reached the finishing end as seventh position holder by clocking an effort of 54.68 seconds.
Jovanovic was chased by Vinicius Kleinert of Brazil, who tried hard to improve his position in the playoff but failed to do so. Kleinert remained 0.80 seconds slower from his following swimmer and posted a time of 55.48 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Donets was contented with his title claiming effort and articulated that he would train harder in future to continue the same at upcoming 2012 World Short Course Championships.
