Stanley Cup, one of the most prestigious trophies of the world of sports
Stanley Cup of Ice Hockey in National Hockey League is considered to be most prestigious trophy of the sport and among the best in the world of sports. It has got the winner team’s name engraved on it and all this is done by a woman in Montreal, Canada.
The all important trophy is a dream for every ice hockey player to hold, even when they are a child and it is also a dream for all the fans to touch that trophy at least once.
Louise St-Jacques, an old woman who has been doing this job for a long period now, does not meet people much and does not let media see the way she works.
Also being called Lord Stanley’s Cup and the Holy Grail, the trophy is made of silver and nickel and weight 15.5 kg, 34.5 pounds. Its length is 89.54 centimetres and 35.25 inches.
Doing this engraving work on the trophy for last 24 years with all the responsibility, St-Jacques revealed that even her family does not know how and when she does it and she has been keeping it as a secret as she said,
"My immediate family is aware of what I am doing but not aware of when I am going to do it. This is a good precaution for any unnecessary advertising."
She is so serious and so focused about her work that she did not even talk to media by meeting them and chose to give information about her job through an email.
Remembering the first time she did this job, she told that she was nervous that she did not talk to anyone, to avoid any type of mistake. She maintains all the carefulness and does her job with all the concentration which is key to her success, as she said,
"I was extremely nervous on my first stamping as this is NHL history and remains forever. Being nervous might allow a mistake, so my full concentration is paramount”.
She also added,
"While stamping, I do not take any calls and remain by myself with absolutely no distraction."
In so many years, she has misspelled only one man and that Adam Deadmarsh, which she wrote “Deadmarch” but later corrected it.
