Question:

Stanley Cup Finals! Some random questions and stuff.?

Haven't been on in a while, my Business class was kicked out of the room for SOL testing, and the room we used didn't have computers, so i decided to take advantage of the time now.

Here is my theory:

Penguins + Victory In Detroit = Stanley Cup.

The Penguins haven't lost yet at home in the playoffs, and other than last night have only lost twice. Even after last night I would say that Fleury>Osgood, and I feel this will be the deciding factor. Do you agree?

Also:

If the Penguins win, then Marian Hossa will win the Conn Smythe (is that the one?) Trophy.

If the Red Wings win, and Franzen returns for Game 2, then he will win the Conn Smythe.

If the Red Wings win, and Franzen doesn't return, then Zetterberg wins the Conn Smythe.

Do you agree with any of the above choices? Why or why not?

  1. Fleury didnt look great in game 1. Pens need to take 1 in Detroit. Penguins also need to find an answer for the WIngs cycling/ passing attack they dominated the Pens D in game 1. I think that the Pens will take games 2 and 3, but in the end a 6 or 7 game series will go to Detroit

  2. There's a S**t out of luck testing now?

  3. No doubt the team with the superior goal tending will win the series. Chris Osgood outplayed Marc-Andre Fluery last night, and that showed on the scoreboard.

    Yes.

    No.

No, I believe that, should the Wings win, Lidstrom receives the Conn Smythe (just another award for his mantle)

  4. 1. I really don't think the Penguin's can get past Detroit period... if they take Game #2, the series might be interesting, but I also don't see that happening. The Penguins were dominated last night by a superior Detroit team. Make no mistake, the Red Wings are far better than any team Pittsburgh has beat in the playoffs.

    2. Fluery has put up terrific numbers, but he plays behind a explosive offense that often stakes him with big leads. Emery had a similar run last year up until the finals, and then the Ducks exposed him for the netminder he really is. I expect the Red Wings to do the same to Fluery. Goaltending won't be the deciding factor, if Fluery plays extremely well it might make it a good series.

    3. Pittsburgh probably won't win, but if they somehow do, it will be because of Fluery. He actually played decent last night but he'll need to elevate and pull off a 2003 J.S. Giguere for the Penguins to win - and I simply don't see him doing that. As I mentioned above, I expect Fluery to be a 2007 Emery - amazing against good competition, mediocre vs. an elite team like Detroit.

    4. Lidstrom gets it. Zetterberg, Osgood, and Franzen have the numbers, but like Neidermayer last year, Lidstrom is the foundation of the Red WIngs, the face of the team and their on ice leader. Just watch him off the puck... he's NEVER out of position and always in the right spot to make a play.

  5. If the Pens are to win game two, Fleury needs to step up, and stop letting the easy stuff past.... That first goal on the wraparound, Fleury was VERY slow coming across, and he lost sight of the puck a lot during the course of the first game... besides that, the Pens need to step up their offense, move the puck, and make good shots. You're in the Stanley Cup Finals.. Enough relishing the moment; Lets play some hockey.

P.S: The Pens looked good in the first...but, how many loose pucks were there that they couldn't get a stick on to put home? If they don't win game two, they're in real trouble.

If the Pens win the cup, sadly, the trophy will go to crosby/ malkin, though I think Hossa is more deserving.

And, I think Lidstrom or Zetterburg will take home the hardware should Detroit win.

  6. pens + wins in detriot = stanley cup. check!

other than last night, yes, fleury>osgood

    pens win, conn smythe=fleury

wings win, conn smythe=zetterberg, regardless of franzen.

  7. If the Pens are going to win, they need to take Game 2 in Detroit.  Goal-tending will be a deciding factor but the Pens need to put a lot more shots on goal.  Shutouts are rare in the NHL and they are bound to get one by.  Fluery is good but goals win games too.

  8. Wow your an Osgood hater... sure Fleury may be better than Osgood, I sorta agree... just a lil...

The goalies will be the center of this, with 2 stellar offenses and defenses... it'll be up to the goalies... assuming the other players perform.

I think Fleury or Hossa or Stall should win the Conn Smythe if the Penguins win...

I don't think Franzen should win the Conn Smythe, even if he's back for game 2... he's a great story and a great player... but zetterberg leads the NHL in playoff points, franzens been injured, and look at Osgood, 11-2 in the playoffs... with a GAA <1.50... how can you leave out Osgood???

ADD:  So your saying that just because Ottawa, New York and Philidelphia couldn't win in Pittsburgh, Detroit can't?  Detroit only lost once at home and they played great... just Turco wouldn't bust...

The Wings have experience... I actually agree with Melrose on what he said "You have to lose before you can win."  Yzerman did.  Greatest captain ever.  Lost before he won.  The wings have a total of 23 cups to the penguins 3 or 4... I mean, you can't deny experience...

  9. i agree that red wings win and zetterberg wins the conn smythe b/c they're always the best =)
