Stanley Cup thirsty Andrew Brunette hopeful of success with Chicago Blackhawks –NHL offseason Update
Veteran left winger, Andrew Brunette, has reached that stage in his professional hockey playing where a player realises that there might not be many years left, either due to injury or just age being a factor. The time he has left, Brunette is still thirsty
for a Stanley Cup championship and hopes to get his hands on it by joining Chicago Blackhawks.
Having over 15 years of experience in the National Hockey League (NHL), Brunette is not new to how the system works but still lacks that Stanley Cup glory which ever player desires.
While being introduced along with Daniel Carcillo by Chicago Blackhawks general manager, Stan Bowman, 37-year-old Andrew Brunette made it clear what he wanted.
"I guess the one good thing for me is it's tough to lose a step when you get older if you never really had one", Brunette said, in an amusing tone during the press conference in front of media and Chicago officials. "I've been blessed with other abilities
and I've been able to get to the spots I need to get to. I think I'm as good as anybody in the League in certain spots. I just need to find a way to get there. Unfortunately I'm a little slower than most to get there, but I get there eventually".
Selected as the 174th overall pick during round-seven of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by Washington Capitals, Brunette has played with a number of teams during his vast and colourful career. Other than his original draft team, Andrew Brunette has
experienced all sort of playing styles with Nashville Predators, Atlanta Thrashers, Colorado Avalanche and finally Minnesota Wild, a team he has spent his last three seasons with.
In all, the Sudbury, Ontario, Canada native, has played 1,032 NHL games and has registered 706 points (256 goals, 450 assists).
Not being able to make the playoffs during the past few seasons with Minnesota Wild have surely been tough on Brunette, but now, with whatever time he has remaining in the major league, he wishes to play with a Stanley Cup winning team like Chicago Blackhawks.
Having won the championship not so long ago in 2010, Chicago is again on the same route and view Brunette as a catalyst which will not only speed up the process, but also guarantee success.
