Stanley Cup winning goalie Cristobal Huet to make major league comeback –NHL Update
After two years of playing in Europe, veteran French goalie, Cristobal Huet, who won the Stanley Cup with Chicago Blackhawks back in 2010, is ready to make a comeback into the National Hockey League (NHL).
Unfortunately, Huet did not go to Europe on his own terms but was sent by Chicago after sitting on the bench throughout their run for the championship.
The veteran goaltender is not back in North America as of yet but has said from Europe that his agent is in talks with some NHL teams and could strike a deal at any moment.
His biggest aspiration at the moment it to return into the major league and continue playing but cannot say for sure whether which team he will definitely play for and how much his demand could be.
"I still belong, I'm better than some other guys, and I'd like another shot," Huet said recently. "I'd love to come back, but I know once you are out of the League a little bit, guys tend to forget about you and that's the nature of the beast. But I still
think I have something to show in the NHL, and to prove I still belong there. For me, it would be a great second chance to come back and play in the best League."
Huet showed that he is up-to-date with the NHL and how the free agency is currently underway by discussing the situation about Roberto Luongo and his domination in the goaltending section. He also hinted at being in talks with Vancouver Canucks general manager,
Mike Gillis, but termed it to be something they want to see after the season begins.
One thing the former NHL netminder believes that playing in Europe has made him much stronger in the position that he plays.
"It's a different rhythm in Europe, a lot more practices," Huet added. "It's kind of hard to practice for 10 days and not have any games and you have got to learn how to manage your body and manage your head when you have breaks."
Cristobal Huet was picked up by Los Angeles Kings as the 214th back in round-seven the 2011 NHL Entry Draft as 214th overall pick.
