Stanley Gene returns to Hull KR in a new role - Rugby League news

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, October 11, Hull Kingston Rovers’ legend, Stanley Gene confirmed his return to coach Rovers’ under-18 team.
Gene’s on-field brilliance is often recalled for touching down a total of 104 times in the total of 150 appearances he had made for Rovers.
One of the most memorable tries he scored so dates back to a 2007 clash against Hull FC, when the utility back scored the final try of a 42-6 win at the KC Stadium. With this impressive win, the Rovers moved the second successive time into the Super League.
His records revealed that he had also played for Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, and Bradford Bulldogs, which explains why this rugby league legend has so much to offer. The player also played for Halifax in the Co-operative Championship.
He is not only well known for his on field role but he has also been praised a great deal for his coaching abilities. The former Papua New Guinean rugby league player was recently coaching Villeneuve Leopards in the Elite One Championship in France.
The player is over the moon with his come back to the club, which gave him the very first chance to exhibit his on-field talent.
Gene, who considers Robins his second home, said, “It’s been a long time coming. After I retired I talked about staying here and when I went back home, that desire to be back at the club started to become stronger. There’s obviously been a lot going on around
the place with Justin (Morgan) going, Craig (Sandercock) coming in and plenty of player movement as well. I’m just delighted to be back at the club where it all started for and am looking forward to putting something back after all Hull Kingston Rovers has
given me.”
Gene’s return to Craven Park all started with a phone call which was made by Rovers’ Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, who convinced the player for this role. Gene strongly approved of the coaching style of the Rovers’ Head coach, which exactly matches with
his own. Sandercock explained that he believed in returning to the basics of the game, which had always been the Gene’s philosophy.
While sharing his keenness about joining in with Rover’s under Sandercock’s coaching philosophy, the former Rover added he was thrilled to start working with his team.
Gene further went on and added that he is aware of the fact that Rovers’ head coach is brilliant with younger players. He also added that previously he had been coaching on ad-hoc basis, whereas this was
“my first job where I’ll be involved with a club on a daily basis and I just can’t wait to get started.”
