  1. Mavin Hagler was the best of the best generation of fighters the world has ever seen, sugar ray at his best just beat him, anyone else no contest

  2. Hagler would walk through him.

  3. As they Are,  Hagler takes a close, hard fought decision.  He's the better boxer and neither man could be hurt by a light heavyweight, much less each other.

However,  "All things Equal"  Ketchel wins.  I'll tell you why.

Hagler ranks above Ketchel on most lists, as he should.  Because if you pair all the best champions against one another in a tournament,  Hagler would win more fights than Ketchel.   But styles make fights.

Remember what I said about  "Fighter A thru E"  You'll see it a lot because its the way it is.  Here it goes again.

Fighter A could beat Fighters B,C and D,   all of whom could beat Fighter E, who in turn can beat Fighter A.    One of many examples:  I can think of a lot of guys who can beat Hasim Rahman.  Those same guys would lose to Lennox Lewis.  Now, not that Rahman would beat Lewis on a regular basis,  but he DOES hold a KO victory over Lennox.

The same holds true for Hagler and Ketchel.  Hagler is just a LITTLE more durable than Ketchel.   However,  he cant seriously hurt Ketchel and Ketchel cant seriously hurt Marvin either.

Marvin can carve up a few guys who might beat Ketchel.  Zale could possibly pull it off.  LaMotta might also.  Hagler beats them both.  Could Tommy Hearns score a couple of knockdowns and take a decision over Ketchel?  It certainly is possible.   Although Hagler only beats Hearns ONCE in the manner he did,  he still holds a victory over him.

Styles make fights.   Ketchel would crowd Marvin and never allow him to set up his punches.  He would force a brawl but Hagler will not blow Ketchel away the way he did to Hearns.

The fight would be much like Marvin's first fight with Vito Antuofermo.  The difference is that Ketchel punches a little harder and fights a LOT dirtier.  He'd  "Mess us Marvin's Jordans" for sure.   Marvin would'nt be able to get much of an attack set up.  He would certainly win some rounds and even make the fight close.   However,  though he would not sustain major damage,  there would be no question as to who the winner is when the bell rings.

The bottom line is that Ketchel stops Hagler from doing what he does best.  It does'nt look pretty but Ketchel takes this one.

Ketchel by close Decision in 15

  4. Touch and go. Probably....... Ken Dodd!

  5. hagler no problem probably a knock out towards the end of the fight :-)

  6. As good as Hagler was......Marvin NEVER faced any fighters who engaged in the type of out & out total brawls that Stanley engaged in. Stanley's roughhouse tactics would turn the fight into a prolonged war. In Hagler's prime ( fighting in " modern " rules ) ...Stanley would lose by DQ.......In Stanley's prime ( fighting as the " old-timers " did )......Stanley would prove too much for Hagler-----Based upon the above; the guy who knocked down Jack Johnson would win-----KETCHEL

  7. That's Marvelous Marvin Hagler to you son.

    from the City of Champions

    Brockton, Massachusetts

  8. Stanley Ketchel has one weapon, a big right hand. Marvin Hagler defeat Thomas Hearns who had a big right hand. This is a tough fight but Marvin Hagler will win because he has better defensive skill.

  9. the jack johnson fight was somewhat misleading, 'cause johnson carried ketchel till the latter dropped him, then jack finished him there and then!!!

hagler outboxes ketchel in a close bloody battle.

  10. Marvin Hagler!!

  11. Great fight!  Stanley Ketchel "The Michigan Assassin" 52-4-4 (49) vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler 62-3-2 (52)  Stanley was a tough brawling type of fighter with TNT in his fists.  He also had a lot of endurance as he also fought several 20 round fights in his career.  I consider him as the overall 5th greatest middleweight in boxing history and the hardest puncher ever at this weight.  Marvin Hagler was a complete fighter and a great champion.  I consider him as the 2nd greatest middleweight champ ever (tie with Monzon)  His punches were very sharp and accurate and he had a cast iron chin.  Speed and boxing ability go to Hagler.  As hard as Hagler punched, Ketchel has the power advantage.  Stamina is about even.  I believe that Ketchel would try to rough house the tough Hagler and try to get inside looking to land his lethal punches and would land some but Hagler would be able to take it.  Hagler would use his speed and boxing ability to keep the tough Ketchel at long range for the most part though their would be some really fierce exchanges from both men.  This fight would be a very brutal and hard fought fight between two legendary fighters.  Hagler would land the higher volume of punches but Ketchel would respond with hard shots of his own.  The crowd would be on their feet as both men would refuse to give an inch to the other.  At the end of a truly great fight, I have Hagler the winner by split decision with a clamoring for a rematch by the boxing public.
