Staples boys volleyball team wins against Blue Waves by 3-1 on Thursday
The Staples boys volleyball team entered the court on Thursday with a mindset to win the match. They needed the team to remind themselves that they are still one of the best boys volleyball teams in the nation and losing the last match that they played has
not affected their performance adversely.
Before Thursday, Staples had lost their match which translated to be the first time after a defeat in the year 2006. The defeat was the first in regular season play since the year mentioned. Therefore, securing a win in their next match became crucial so
the Staples could prove to their rivals that they had not lost their touch just yet.
As a result, the Blue Wave became the scapegoat to prove this point while the Staples handed out a defeat to them by winning the match at 3-1.
Despite the fact that they lost the match against the Staples, the Blue Wave team did not go down without putting up a good fight. Each set of the match was closely contested. Therefore, what ensued was a competitive game of volleyball that did not fail
to thrill the audience.
As the Staples team was jumping with joy upon having secured a win and the Blue Waves were moving out of the court with their heads hung low, the scoreboard told the story of the match by displaying the following set scores: 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-16.
As soon as the first set of the match started, both the teams went in for the kill to take control of the game. For the initial part of the match, both the Staples and Blue Wave were almost neck-to-neck with each other. Neither team was backing down from
the offensive and making it difficult for the other to score points. However, as the match reached its final stages, Blue Wave was able to come out strong and pull away from their rivals by bringing the opening set to a close at 25-21.
Having lost the first set of the game increased the amount of pressure that the Staples felt while playing the second set. This increased pressure brought out a greater amount of effort from the Staples who were able to step up their game and challenge the
Blue Waves considerably. The second set of the match also went tough but in the end, the Staples prevailed by bagging it at 25-21.
Once the Staples built their confidence by winning the second set of the match, it got them started. They did not lose sight of their goal in the third set either and eventually made their way to another win at 25-21.
With two sets under their belt, the fourth set came easy for the Staples. They were able to win it quite convincingly at 25-16.
Next in line for the Staples is a match on Friday to be played in Harding.
