Stapling through a cable modem - adverse effects?

If you are installing a cable modem, and you're using that staple gun to keep the cable in place and you accidentally staple through the cable, could this adversely affect the internet connection? Or, is the actual wire in the cable thin enough that the staple probably didn't even make contact with it, and it would be okay?

  1. It will affect your connection because the outer realm of the cabling contains the protection against radio frequencies. Example is that various radio frequencies 2.4GHz, 5GHz and others could interfere with the transmission of your data.

But yes you are correct in that the actual wire is smaller and is located inside of this cable.
